     The Bouvet French battleship 
     in Dardanelles Strait 1915

The Bouvet was a Dreadnought-type French battleship, built during 1896. 
During the I WW, she tried to force the Dardanelles strait escorted by a British squadron: the Dardanelles were defended by Turkish forces, allied to Germany.

La Bouvet era una corazzata Francese tipo Dreadnought, costruita nel 1896.
Nel corso della I Guerra Mondiale, tentò di forzare lo Stretto dei Dardanelli, con la scorta di una squadra Britannica: i Dardanelli erano difesi da forze Turche, alleate della Germania.

She was 120m-long, powered by a 48000hp steam engine, with a max. speed of 17kn; two 305mm guns, plus two 274mm and 46 lesser guns. Four torpedo-launchers.

Era lunga 120m, ed era equipaggiata con macchine a vapore con una potenza di 48000hp, che le consentivano una velocità di 17 nodi; era armata con due cannoni da 305mm, più due da 274mm e 46 bocche da fuoco di calibro minore; quattro lanciasiluri. 

On March 18, 1915, the Bouvet entered the Dardanelles, but the mine fields were so extensive that she couldn't avoid the collision with a floating mine. 
The battleship was devastated by the explosion, and rapidly sank in the strait.
More then 670 men of the crew died.

Il 18 Marzo 1915, la Bouvet penetrò nello Stretto dei Dardanelli, ma i campi di mine erano così estesi che non potè evitare la collisione con una di esse.
La corazzata fu devastata dall'esplosione, ed affondò rapidamente nello stratto.
Più di 670 uomini dell'equipaggio morirono.

During the same action, the British cruisers HMS Irresistible and HMS Ocean sank after the collision with floating mines, and four more warships suffered severe damages.

Nel corso della stessa azione, anche gli incrociatori Britannici HMS Irresistible e HMS Ocean furono affondati dalle mine, ed altre quattro unità furono gravemente danneggiate.
