    The Roman vessel " A" of Capo Sant'Andrea
    (Elba Island) 50 B.C.

 

The ancient Ship of Capo Sant'Andrea "A" was a Roman trade vessel carrying a cargo of wine in Dressel 1 amphorae (left), sunk at Capo S.Andrea (Elba Island) around 50 B.C.

La Nave di Capo Sant'Andrea "A" era una nave oneraria Romana, che portava un carico di vino in anfore tipo Dressel 1 (a sinistra), affondata presso capo Sant'Andrea (Isola d'Elba) intorno al 50 A.C.

A layer of pine resin was spreaded on the inner surface of the amphorae (this is a typical feature of wine amphorae), and some of them were still sealed: the seal (right) was engraved with the name of the owner.

Uno strato di resina di pino era stato spalmato sulla superficie interna delle anfore (è una caratteristica delle anfore vinarie), ed alcune di esse sono state trovate ancora sigillate: sul sigillo (a destra) era impresso il nome del proprietario.
