    The U-755 German VII-C class submarine
    North-West of Mallorca 1943

The U-755 was one of the successiful VII-C class German submarines: she was built in Wilhelmshaven by Kriegsmarinewerft during 1940, and launched during 1941.

The submarines of the VII-C class were 67.10m long; displacement 769 tons (surfaced) 871 tons (submerged); max speed 17.7kn (surfaced) 7.5kn (submerged); five 533mm torpedo launchers; one 88mm gun, plus one or two 20mm or one 37mm machine gun. They were designed to dive down to -220m.

The U-755 sank three enemy ships in five missions.

L' U-755 affondò tre navi nemiche in cinque missioni.

On September 24, 1942, the U-755 was attacked by an Allied destroyer that was escorting the SC-100 convoy. 
A few hours later the German submarine failed in her torpedo attack to the same convoy, and was in turn attacked by an Allied airplane. 
After a few hours, the U-755 was depth charged by a torpedo boat: she suffered severe damages, and was forced to return to her base.

Il 24 Settembre 1942, l' U-755 fu attaccato da un cacciatorpediniere Alleato che stava scortando il convoglio SC-100.
Poche ore dopo il sommergibile fallì un lancio di siluri contro lo stesso convoglio, e fu a sua volta attaccato da un aereoplano Alleato.
Nelle ore seguenti, l' U-755 fu fatto segno a lancio di bombe di profondità da parte di una torpediniera, rimanendo gravemente danneggiato, e fu costretto a far rientro alla base.

The last week of the U-755 was very throubled. 
On May 21, 1943, when she was cruising South of Mallorca, the U-755 was attacked by the British submarine HMS Sickle.
On May 26, 1943, she was depth charged by a British Lockheed A 28 Hudson anti submarine bomber: one man was killed, and the submarine was so damaged that the German Commander headed to the base. 
But again, on May 28, she was spotted North-West of Mallorca by a British Hudson: the U-755 was hit by rockets and sank rapidly at 39°58'N, 1°41'E.

L'ultima settimana dell' U-755 fu terribilmente travagliata.
Il 21 Maggio 1943, mentre incrociava a sud di Majorca, l' U-755 fu attaccato dal sommergibile Britannico HMS Sickle.
Il 26 Maggio 1943, un bombardiere Britannico Lockheed A 28 Hudson sganciò alcune bombe di profondità contro l' U-755: un uomo dell'equipaggio fu ucciso, ed il sommergibile riportò tali danni che il Comandante dovette dirigersi verso la base.
Ma il 28 Maggio, l' U-755 fu nuovamente localizzato da un Hudson Britannico a Nord-Ovest di Maiorca: il sommergibile fu colpito da razzi, ed affondò rapidamente a 39°58'N, 1°41'E.

40 men of the crew died, and just 9 could be rescued by the Spanish destroyer Velasco.
