    The HMS Ark Royal British aircraft carrier

The HMS Ark Royal was one of the most famous British aircraft carriers.
She was built by Cammell Laird Shipyard at Birkenhead, laid down during1935-36, launched during 1937 and completed during 1938.

L' HMS Ark Royal era una delle più famose portaerei Britanniche.
Fu costruita a Birkenhead nei cantieri Cammell Laird nel 1935-36, varata nel 1937 e completata nel 1938.

The HMS Ark Royal  took part in the hunt to the German battleship Admiral Graf Spee; attacked the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir (Algeria) and at Dakar (Senegal); and pursued the German battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau.
Her torpedo-bombers hit and damaged the German battleship Bismark.

La HMS Ark Royal prese parte alla caccia alla corazzata tascabile Tedesca Admiral Graf Spee; attaccò la Flotta Francese a Mers-el-Kebir (Algeria) ed a Dakar (Senegal); ed inseguì gli incrociatori da battaglia Scharnhorst e Gneisenau.
I suoi aerosiluranti colpirono e danneggiarono gravemente la potente corazzata Tedesca Bismark.

When she moved in Mediterranean, the HMS Ark Royal  took part in the operations to supply Malta, and in 1941 her airplanes bombed the harbour of Genoa (Italy).

On November 14, 1941, the hmS Ark Royal was returning to her base in Gibraltar, when she was torpedoed by the German submarine U-81.
After a few hours, the carrier capsized and sank, South of Mallorca. 
The crew was rescued by the British destroyer HMS Legion.

Il 14 Novembre 1941, l' HMS Ark Royal stava rientrando alla base di Gibilterra quando fu sorpresa e silurata dal sommergibile Tedesco U-81.
Nel giro di poche ore, la portaerei si capovolse ed affondò a Sud di Maiorca. L' equipaggio fu raccolto dal cacciatorpediniere Britannico HMS Legion.
