    The Castore torpedo boat off Capo Spartivento 1943

The RT Castore was an Italian torpedo-boat sunk during a battle off Capo Spartivento on June 2, 1943. 

Il Castore era una torpediniera Italiana, affondata nel corso di un combattimento presso Capo Spartivento il 2 Giugno 1943.

The Castore was escorting a convoy of cargo ships, when two Allied destroyers, the Brirish HMS Jervis and the Greek Vassilissa Olga, suddenly attacked: the Castore tried to screen the convoy, but the struggle was brief and violent, and the Italian torpedo boat was rapidly overwhelmed. 

Il Castore stava scortando un convoglio di navi da trasporto, quando due cacciatorpediniere Alleati, il Britannico HMS Jarvis ed il Greco Vassilissa Olga, attaccarono improvvisamente: il Castore cercò di proteggere i trasporti, ma la battaglia fu breve e violenta, e la torpediniera Italiana fu rapidamente sopraffatta.

The wreck of the Castore now lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of -28m off Capo Spartivento. 
The hull is in poor conditions, because it was dismantled after the end of the II World War by professional divers that recovered the boilers opening the bridge by means of dynamite charges. 

Il relitto del Castore giace su un fondale sabbioso ad una profondità di -28m, al largo di Capo Spartivento.
Lo scafo è in cattive condizioni, perchè è stato smantellato dopo la fine della guerra da sommozzatori professionisti, che hanno recuperato le caldaie aprendo il ponte con la dinamite.

Regrettably, hoards of souvenires hunters are still despoiling the glorious, unlucky Castore. 

Purtroppo, orde di cacciatori di souvenires stanno ancora spogliando il glorioso e sfortunato Castore.
