The Bourbon warships
During 1798, the French Army conquered Naples and the Southern part of Italy and the Bourbon King took refuge in Sicily.
The Bourbon Fleet was in
the harbour of Naples, part of the crews missing or prisoners: the Commander of the
Fleet
decided to burn the warships that couldn't sail rather than giving them to Napoleon.
The wrecks of the Bourbon warships are still on the seabottom in the harbour of Naples, and a large amount of remains have been recovered: among them, a variety of guns (above), once representing the pride of the most powerful fleet in Mediterranean. .
