    The USS Sentinel American Auk-class minesweeper
    off Licata 1943

The USS Sentinel  was an Auk-class American minesweeper, built in Lorain (Ohio) by American Shipbuilding Co. during 1941, and launched during 1942.

L' USS Sentinel era un dragamine statunitense della Classe Auk, costruito a Lorain (Ohio) nei cantieri American Shipbuilding Co. nel corso del 1941, e varato nel 1942.

During the Allied invasion of Sicily, on July 12, 1943, the USS Sentinel  was cruising off Southern Sicilian coasts.
Here she was spotted and attacked by a German bomber Junkers Ju 88: the USS Sentinel was severely damaged by the bombs and sank South of Licata.

Nel corso dell'invasione Alleata della Sicilia, Il 12 Luglio 1943, l' USS Sentinel stava appoggiando le operazioni di sbarco  al largo delle coste meridionali Siciliane, quando fu avvistato ed attaccato da un bombardiere Tedesco Junkers Ju 88: l' USS Sentinel fu gravemente danneggiato dalle bombe ed affondò a Sud di Licata.
