    The HMS Hyperion British H-class destroyer
    off Pantelleria Island 1940

The HMS Hyperion was an H-class British destroyer, built in Wallsend-on-Tyne by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd. during 1935, and launched during 1936.

L' HMS Hyperion era un cacciatorpediniere Britannico della Classe H, costruito a Wallesend-on-Tyne nei cantieri Swan Hunter & Wigham Richerdson Ltd. nel corso del 1935, e varato nel 1936.

On April 19, 1940, she was involved in the Battle of Cape Spada (North-Western Crete).
The Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney and the British destroyers HMS Hasty, HMS Hyperion, HMS Hero, HMS Ilex and HMS Havoc, intercepted the Italian light cruisers Bartolomeo Colleoni and her sister ship Giovanni delle Bande Nere.
The Colleoni was hit by HMS Sydney's gunfire and could no longer manoeuvre: the destroyers got close and finished the Colleoni by torpedoes. 
The Bande Nere escaped heading to Bengazi.

Il 19 Aprile 1940, fu coinvolto nella Battaglia di Capo Spada (Creta Nord occidentale).
L'incrociatore Australiano HMAS Sydney ed i cacciatorpediniere Britannici HMS Hasty, HMS Hyperion, HMS Hero HMS Hyperion, HMS Hero, HMS Ilex ed HMS Havoc, intercettarono gli incrociatori leggeri Italiani Giovanni delle Bande Nere e la sua nave gemella Bartolomeo Colleoni.
Il Colleoni fu colpito dal fuoco d'artiglieria dell' HMS Sydney, e non potè più manovrare: i cacciatorpediniere serrarono le distanze e finirono il Colleoni con i siluri.
Il Giovanni delle Bande Nere sfuggì facendo rotta verso Bengasi.

On December 22, 1940, the HMS Hyperion was cruising in the Sicilian Straits when she collided with a floating mine. She suffered severe damages by the explosion, and sank off Pantelleria Island.

Il 22 Dicembre 1940, l' HMS Hyperion stava incrociando nello Stretto di Sicilia quando entrò in collisione con una mina galleggiante. Il cacciatorpediniere fu gravemente danneggiato dall'esplosione, ed affondò al largo dell'Isola di Pantelleria.
