The HMS Parthian was an old P-class British submarine. She was built by Chatham Dockyards during 1928, and launched in 1929. 
Her nickname was "Peanut", because the identity letters painted on her conning tower were "PN".

The HMS Parthian sank the Italian submarine Diamante off Tobruck on June 20, 1940; she landed an agent on Crete on July 20, 1940; sank the Italian cargo Carlo Martinolich South of Capo Spartivento (Calabria) on January 1, 1941; and sank the French (Vichy) submarine Souffleur off Beirouth, June 25, 1941.

L' HMS Parthian affondò il sommergibile Italiano Diamante al largo di Tobruck il 20 Giugno 1940; il 20 Luglio 1940 sbarcò alcuni agenti a Creta; il 1 Gennaio 1941 affondò il trasporto Italiano Carlo Martinolich a Sud di Capo Spartivento (Calabria); ed affondò il Somergibile della Francia di Vichy Souffleur al largo di Beirut, il 25 Giugno 1941.

During the period between 1942 and 1943, she operated as a cargo submarine, carrying ammunitions and aviation fuel to Malta.

When she was patrolling the Southern Adriatic Sea, the HMS Partian collided with a floating mine off Brindisi, probably on August 11, 1943. 
The HMS Parthian sank with all hands.
