L' HMS Traveller era un sommergibile Britannico della Classe T, costruito A Greenock da Scotts Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. nel corso del 1940, e varato nel 1941. . The HMS Traveller was based in Malta: she left La Valletta at the end of November, 1942, heading to the Gulf of Taranto. She was performing a reconnaissance mission: the Royal Navy was preparing a human torpedo attack against the harbour of Taranto, designed as "Operation Portcullis". L' HMS Traveller aveva la sua base a Malta: alla fine di Novembre 1942, lasciò La Valletta facendo rotta sul Golfo di Taranto.
