    The HMS Odin O-class British submarine 
    in Taranto Gulf 1940

The HMS Odin was an old O-class British submarine, built by Chatham during 1927 and launched during 1928.

The HMS Odin operated in Mediterranean from the base of Alexandria (Egypt) since 1940.

L' HMS Odin operò in Mediterraneo dalla base di Alessandria d'Egitto a partire dal 1940.

During June, 1940, the HMS Odin was patrolling the Gulf of Taranto (Ionian Sea) when, on June 13, she was spotted by the Italian torpedo boat Strale. 
The Strale attacked the British submarine firstly by torpedoes, then by guns. When the HMS Odin fired a torpedo, the Strale tried to ram her: the submarine dove, and the torpedo boat launched some depth charges that damaged the HMS Odin.

Nel Giugno 1940, l' HMS Odin stava pattugliando il Golfo di Taranto quando, 1l 13 Giugno, fu localizzato ed attaccato dalla torpediniera Italiana Strale.
Lo Strale attaccò il sommergibile Britannico prima con siluri e poi con fuoco d'artiglieria. Quando l' HMS Odin rispose lanciando un siluro, lo Strale cercò di speronarlo: il sommergibile si immerse, e la torpediniera lanciò alcune bombe di profondità, che danneggiarono l' HMS Odin.

Anyway, the submarine survived, but a few hours after the first attack, she was spotted again by another Italian torpedo boat, the Baleno, about ten miles away from the preceeding attack position.
Again, the Italian torpedo boat tried to ram the submarine, and again she dove. 
But the depth charges of the Baleno hit the HMS Odin, that sank with all hands at 39°30'N, 17°30'E. 

Nonostante i danni, il sommergibile sopravvisse, ma alcune ore dopo fu nuovamante localizzato da un'altra torpediniera Italiana, il Baleno, a dieci miglia di distanza dalla posizione del precedente scontro.
Ancora una volta, la torpediniera Italiana tentò lo speronamento, ed ancora una volta il sommergibile Britannico si immerse.
Ma le bombe di profondità lanciate dal Baleno colpirono l' HMS Odin, che affondò con tutto l'equipaggio a 39°30'N, 17°30'E.

For a while, the Italians thought to have attacked two distinct British submarines, but positively both episodes regarded the HMS Odin.

Per un certo periodo, gli Italiani pensarono di aver attaccato due diversi sommeregibili Britannici, ma è sicuro che entrambi gli episodi ebbero per protagonista l' HMS Odin.
