The Tricheco was an Italian submarine of the "Squalo" class, that ended the "experimental" period of Italian submarines. She was built in Monfalcone by CRDA during 1929, and launched in 1931.

Il Tricheco era un sommergibile Italiano della Classe "Squalo", che terminò il periodo "sperimentale" dei sommergibili Italiani.
Fu costruito a Monfalcone dai cantieri CRDA nel 1929, e varato nel 1931.

On August 8, 1940, the Tricheco caused the unfortunate sinking of the Italian submarine Gemma near Scarpanthos (Dodecanese, Greece).

L' 8 Agoso 1940, subito dopo l'inizio della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, il Tricheco fu protagonista dello sfortunato episodio che portò all'affondamento del sommergibile Italiano Gemma presso Scarpanto (Dodecanneso, Grecia).

On March 18, 1942, the Tricheco was cruising off the coast of Brindisi, coming from Augusta (Sicily), when she was attacked by the British submarine HMS Upholder. 
The Tricheco was hit by a torpedo and sank rapidly.

Il 18 Marzo 1942, il Tricheco stava incrociando al largo della costa di Brindisi proveniente dalla base di Augusta (Sicilia), quando fu attaccato dal sommergibile Britannico HMS Upholder.
Il Tricheco fu colpito da un siluro ed affondò rapidamente.

The wreck shows the effects of the devastating explosion, and lies on a flat, sandy bottom at a depth of -60m.
