    The HMS Southampton British light cruiser
    East of Malta 1941

 

The HMS Southampton  was a British light cruiser, built in Clydebank by John Brown Shipbuilding & Engineering Ltd. during 1934 and launched during 1936.

L' HMS Southampton era un incrociatore leggero Britannico, costruito a Clydebank nei cantieri John Brown Shipbuilding & Engineering Ltd. nel corso del 1934-35, e varato nel 1936.

On January 11, 1941, the HMS Southampton was cruising in Central Mediterranean when she was spotted and attacked by some German Junkers Ju 87 Stuka dive bombers.
The British cruiser was devastated by the precise bombing, and sank East of Malta.
81 men of the crew died or were missing.

L'incriciatore Britannico fu devastato dal bombardamento, ed affondō ad Est di Malta.
81 uomini dell'equipaggio morirono o furono dati per dispersi.
