    The HMS P-39 U-class British submarine

The HMS P-39 was an U-class British submarine, built in Barrow by Vickers Armstrong during 1940, and launched during 1941.

L' HMS P-39 era un sommergibile Britannico della Classe U, costruito a Barrow dai cantieri Vickers Armstrong nel corso del 1940, e varato nel 1941.

During March, 1942, the HMS P-39 performed a patrol East of Tunisia in course of the II Battle of the Sirte (the Battle of the convoys for Malta). 
On March 26, she was just returned to La Valletta, when she was bombed and sunk by German airplanes.

Nel Marzo 1942, l' HMS P-39 compì una missione di pattugliamento ad Est della Tunisia durante la II battaglia della Sirte (la battaglia dei convogli di Malta).
Il 26 Marzo, era appena rientrato a La Valletta quando fu bombardato ed affondato da aerei Tedeschi.

Many of HMS P-39's crew died a few weeks later in the sinking of the British submarine  HMS Olympus, that was bringing them back to Great Britain.

The HMS P-39 was raised, but the damages were too severe, and the wreck was grounded at Kalkara and camoufaged during 1943. Here she was bombed again. The hull was dismantled during 1954.
