The Tembien was an Italian submarine that was lost in the Southern Ionian Sea.

On August 2, 1941, the British cruiser HMS Hermione spotted and attacked an enemy submarine off Malta. The partrol zone was that of Tembien. 
The cruiser rammed the submarine, that sank immediately: no man of the crew could be rescued..

Il 2 Agosto 1941, l'incrociatore Britannico HMS Hermione localizzò ed attaccò un sommergibile nemico appostato al largo di Malta in attesa del passaggio di un convoglio Alleato. La zona di pattugliamento era quella assegnata al Tembien.
L'incrociatore speronò il sommergibile, che affondò immediatamente: nessun uomo dell'equipaggio potè essere salvato.

The Tembien was also claimed to be sunk in the same period by the British submarine HMS Upholder. 

Più o meno negli stassi giorni, anche il sommergibile Britannico HMS Upholder segnalò di avere affondato il Tembien.
