    The el Faroud tanker
    South-West of Weid-Iz-Zurreiq 1998

The El Faroud was a 100m long tanker that was seriously damaged by an explosion in Malta dry docks, when she was under repairs. Nine men died in the explosion. 

La El Faroud era una petroliera lunga 100m, che fu seriamente danneggiata da un'esplosione nei cantieri di Malta, mentre era in bacino per manutenzione. Nove uomini morirono nell'incidente.

In September 1998 the tanker was arranged for safe scuba diving (all the doors have been removed) and scuttled in front of Blue Groto creek (Weid-Iz-Zurreiq). 
Unfortunately, the ship drifted some 200m far from the coast. The wreck now lies on a white sand bottom at a depth of -37m. 

Nel Settembre 1998 la petroliera fu preparata per essere visitata in sicurezza dai subacquei (ad esempio, tutte le porte sono state rimosse) e poi fu affondata di fronte al Blue Groto creek (Weid-Iz-Zurreiq).
Purtroppo, la nave ha scarrocciato allontanandosi a circa 200m dalla costa. Il relitto ora giace su un fondale di sabbia bianca ad una profondità di -37m.

The dive on the wreck is impressive at least for the imposing dimensions of the ship. The visit to the large galleries and to the inner stairs is suggestive and not difficult.

L'immersione sul relitto della El Faroud è spettacolare, quanto meno per le grandi dimensioni della nave. La visita ai grandi corridoi ed alle scale interne è facile e suggestiva.
