    The lesser Roman vessel of Albenga

The lesser Ship of Albenga was a small Roman trade vessel, about 20m long, carrying a cargo of wine in Dressel 1 amphorae (left), and sunk off the cost of Albenga during the I Century B.C., not far from the contemporary, but much larger, Roman trade vessel known as the Ship of Albenga.

La Nave minore di Albenga era una piccola oneraria Romana, lunga circa 20m, che trasportava un carico di vino in anfore tipo Dressel ! (a sinistra), e affondato al largo della costa di Albenga nel corso del I Secolo A.C., non lontano dalla contemporanea, ma assai più grande, oneraria Romana nota cone Nave di Albenga.

The ship could carry about 3000 amphorae (about 150 tons). 
The wreck was discovered just during summer 2003 by divers of the Carabinieri (the military police): it lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of about -50m, and is almost intact. Just a few amphorae of the cargo have been stolen by souvenires hunters.
The dive on the lesser Albenga ship is presently forbidden, waiting for an accurate exploration campaign.

La nave poteva trasportare circa 3000 anfore (circa 150 tonnellate).
Il relitto è stato scoperto solo nell'estate 2003 da Carabiniari subacquei: giace su un fondo di sabbia a circa -50m di profondità, ed è praticamente intatto: solo poche anfore sono state rubate da ladri di antichità.
L'immersione sull'oneraria minore di Albenga è al momento vietata, in attesa di un'adeguata campagna di esplorazione.
