    The HMS Usurper  U-class British submarine
    off Genova 1943

The HMS Usurper was an U-class British submarine: she was built in Newcastle-on-Tyne by Vickers Armstrong during 1941 and launched during 1942.

On July 27, 1943, the HMS Usurper sank the French cargo Chateau Yquem off Capo Coda Cavallo (Sardinia).

On September 24, 1943, the HMS Usurper left Algiers heading to the Italian base in La Spezia, and, at the beginning of October she was in the Gulf of Genoa: the last contact with her base was on October 3.
The HMS Usurper failed to return in Algiers on October 13: it was believed that she collided with a floating mine off Genova.

But, on October 3, the German anti submarine corvette UJ-2208 attacked an Allied submarine. The corvette couldn't comfirm the sinking: the submarine could have been the HMS Usurper.
No man of the British crew survived.
