    The San Guglielmo troop-carrier
    near Loano 1918

The San Guglielmo was an Italian first class luxury liner, launched in Glasgow during 1911.
During the I World War she was transformed in troop-carrier.

La San Guglielmo era una lussuosa nave passeggeri di prima classe, varata a Glasgow nel 1911. Nel corso della I Guerra Mondiale fu trasformata in trasporto truppe.

On January 8, 1918, the San Guglielmo was heading to Gibraltar together with her sister ship San Giovanni, under the escort of the Italian destroyer Bersagliere. 
A German submarine suddenly launched a torpedo and hit the San Guglielmo; the Captain headed rapidly to the coast, trying to ground the ship to prevent the sinking, but the damages were too severe, and the san Guglielmo sank close to the coast of Loano. 
One man of the crew died. 

L' 8 Gennaio 1918, la San Guglielmo stava dirigendo per Gibilterra insieme alla gemella San Giovanni, sotto la scorta del cacciatorpediniere Bersagliere.
Improvvisamente, un sommergibile Tedesco lanciò un siluro che colpì la San Guglielmo; il Comandante diresse immediatamente verso la costa, tentando di incagliare la nave per evitarne l'affondamento, ma i danni erano troppo gravi, e la San Guglielmo affondò in prossimità della costa di Loano. 
Un uomo dell'equipaggio morì nell'affondamento.

The wreck lies on a muddy bottom at a depth of -25m, about 800m off the coast of Loano. The zone is a natural preserve, and the dive on the San Guglielmo is forbidden. 

Il relitto giace su nun fondale fangoso ad una profondità di -25m, a circa 800m dalla costa. La zona è una Riserva naturalistica, e le immersioni sulla San Guglielmo sono vietate.
