    The Pelagosa Italian mine-layer 
    off Sturla (Genova) 1943

The Pelagosa was an Italian mine-layer of the Fasana class (76m, 600 tons, one 76mm gun, 240 mines), launched at Castellammare di Stabia during 1916.

During the II WW, Italy surrended to the Allied Forces on September 8, 1943: on September 9, the Pelagosa and other ships of the Italian Navy tried to leave Genova, under the siege of the German Army, to reach the harbour of La Spezia. 

Nel corso della II Guerra Mondiale, l'Italia si arrese alle Forze alleate l' 8 Settembte 1943: il 9 Settembre, il Pelagosa, insieme ad altre navi della Marina Italiana, cercò di abbabdonare il porto di Genova, che era minacciato dall'Esercito Tedesco, per fuggire alla Spezia.

But the fire of a coastal battery hit the Pelagosa: the crew abandoned the ship, and after a few hours the mine-layer capsized and sank, about 7 miles from the harbour of Genova, off the coast of Sturla..

Ma il fuoco d'artiglieria di una batteria costiera inquadrò il Pelagosa danneggiandolo gravemente: l'equipaggio dovette abbandonare la nave, e dopo alcune ore il posamine si rovesciò ed affondò, a circa 7 miglia dal porto di genova, al largo della costa di Sturla.

The wreck lies capsized on a muddy bottom at a depth of -37m. The hull is broken in three segments, and the large rudder and the propellers are well evident.

Il relitto giace capovolto su un fondale fangoso, ad una profondità di -37m. Lo scafo è spezzato in tre segmanti, e il grande timone e le eliche sono bene evidenti.
