    The Tirpitz German military cargo 
    off S.Remo 1941

The Tirpitz was a German cargo ship, built in Hamburg during 1921. At the beginning of the II World War, she was in the Mediterranean, and was joined to the German Navy.
On July 23, 1942, when she was carrying a cargo of mechanical spare parts, the Tirpitz collided with a mine off San Remo. The Captain tried to ground the ship to save the cargo, but the damage was too severe and the Tirpitz sunk before reaching the coast.

La Tirpitz era una nave da carico Tedesca, costruita ad Amburgo nel 1921. All'inizio della II Guerra Mondiale si trovava in Mediterraneo,  fu requisita e servì  nella Marina Militare Tedesca.
Il 23 Luglio 1942, mentre trasportava un carico di ricambi meccanici, la Tirpitz entrò in collisione con una mina galleggiante al largo di san Remo. Il Comandante si diresse verso terra nel tentativo di incagliare la nave e salvare il carico, ma il danno era troppo grave, e la Tirpitz affondò prima di raggiungere la costa.

The Tirpitz is still almost intact: just the professional divers of the legendary Italian recovery-ship Artiglio worked on the wreck. The hull lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of more than -90m, and is entangled in trawler fishnets: the dive requires the use of Helium mixtures.

La Tirpitz è ancora pressochè intatta: solo i palombari professionisti della leggendaria nave-recupero Artiglio hanno lavorato sul relitto dopo la Guerra.
Lo scafo giace su un fondo sabbiosoa una profondità di più di -90m, e molte reti da pesca vi si sono impigliate: l'immersione richiede l'uso di miscele di Elio.
