    The Handley Page Halifax British bomber 
    off Punta Portofino 1942

The Handley Page Halifax was one of the most successiful strategic bomber serving in the Royal Air Force in the II WW. 
It was powered by four radial  Bristol engines (1615hp); max speed 450km/h; range 1800km; nine .50 machine guns; max bomb load 6500kg.

L' Handley Page Halifax era uno dei più diffusi ed apprezzati bombardieri strategici che servirono nella Royal Air Force durante la II Gruerra Mondiale.
Era equipaggiato da quattro motori radiali Bristol da 1615hp; velocità massima 450km/h; autonomia 1800km; nove mitragliatrici da 12.7mm; massimo carico offensivo 6500kg.

A Halifax bomber was shoot down by the anti-aircraft fire after a bombing attack on Genova on November 9, 1942. The bomber sunk about 200m South-East of Punta Portofino, where the seabottom is more than -80m deep. The crew was rescued by an Allied seaplane based in Corsica. .

Un bombardiere Halifax fu abbattuto dal fuoco della contraerea dopo un bombardamento su Genova il 6 Novembre 1942. Il bombardiere affondò circa 200m a Sud-Est da Punta Portofino, dove il fondale supera la profondità di -80m. L'equipaggio fu raccolto da un idrovolante Alleato partito dalla Corsica.

A few years ago, some remains of the Halifax (part of the cockpit and a wheel tyre) have been recovered by a trawler fishnet.

Alcuni anni fa, alcuni resti dell'Halifax (parte della cabina di pilotaggio e la ruota di un carrello) sono stati ripescati da una rete a strascico.
