    The TA 30 (Dragone) torpedo-boat
    near Deiva Marina 1944
.

..

.

The Torpedo Boote Auslande TA 30 (former Regia Torpediniera RT Dragone) was an Italian torpedo boat, captured by the German Navy in the Genova shipyards, where the Dragone was under construction.

.

During the night of June 14, 1944, the TA 30 and the TA 26 (former RT Intrepido) were patrolling the sea off the coast of Deiva Marina, carrying an extra cargo of depht charges.
They were suddenly attacked and sunk by three US Torpedo boats (PT 552, PT 558 and PT 559) based in Corsica.
The German Hospital Ship Erlangen tried to rescue the crews, but she was damaged by American airplanes, and grounded near Sestri Levante.

The story of the TA 30, after the sinking, is curiously related with that of another German corvette, the UJ 2210 (former Marcella)
