    The "KT" (Krieg Transporte, former Eros)  
    near Sestri Levante 1944

The German corvette known as "KT" (Krieg Transporte) was actually a luxury yacht, built in Leith (UK) for Henry de Rotschild: it was called Eros. 
She was joined to the Marine Nationale Francaise during 1939, when she was at Le Havre, and renamed to serve in Meditarranean as AD 196.

La Corvetta Tedesca nota come "KT" (Krieg Transporte, Nave-trasporto militare) era stato uno yacht di lusso, costruito a Leith (Inghilterra) per Henry de Rotshild, battezzato Eros. Era stato incorporato nella Marine Nationale Francaise nel 1939, quando era a Le Havre, ribattezato AD 106 e destinato al servizio in Mediterraneo.

She served for two years at Tangeri and Casablanca, where she hosted a number of diplomatic missions. Then, during 1942, she moved to Toulon, where again received a new name, Incomprise. 

La nave servì per due anni tra Tangeri e Casablanca, dove ospitò numerose missioni diplomatiche. Quindi, nel 1942, venne spostata a Tolone dove ricevette ancora una volta un nuovo nome: Incomprise.

At the end of 1942 she was captured by the Kriegsmarine, and transformed in anti submarine corvette with the name of U-Jager UJ 2216. Her new base was Genova. 

Alla fine del 1942, Incomprise fu requisita dai Tedeschi, trasformata in Corvetta anti-sommergibili ed entrò a far parte della Kriegsmarine col nuovo nome di UJ 2216. La sua nuova base operativa fu Genova..

On September 13, 1944, she was escorting two minelayers to La Spezia harbour, when the convoy was attacked by an allied torpedo-bomber: two torpedoes hit the corvette, causing the explosion of the depth charges: the stern was completely destroyed, and the "KT" sank rapidly. 
Six men of the crew died, and seventeen more were missing.

Il 13 Settembre 1944, UJ 2216 stava scortando due posamine verso il porto di La Spezia, quando il convoglio venne attaccato da un aerosilurante Alleato: due siluri colpirono la corvetta, causando l'esplosione delle bombe di profondità: la poppa fu completamente distrutta, e il "KT" affondò rapidamente. 
Sei uomini dell'equipaggio morirono, e diciassette furono i dispersi.

The wreck lies in navigation trim on a muddy bottom at a depth of -60m, while the upper parts of the structure reach -35m. The anterior part of the hull is very well preserved, and the "KT" is probably the most interesting wreck in Liguria.
The bow (left) is absolutely spectacular, the twin 20mm machine guns (above) still pointed against the torpedo-bomber.

Il relitto giace in assetto di navigazione su un fondale melmoso a -60m di profondità: le sovrastrutture raggiungono i -35m. La parte anteriore dello scafo è assai ben conservato, e il "KT" di Sestri è forse il relitto più spettacolere della Liguria.
La prua (a sinistra) è assolutamente spettacolare, con il complesso binato da 20mm (sopra) ancora puntato contro l'aerosilurante.

The dive on the "KT" is beautiful but suitable just for very experienced scuba divers, and the use of Helium mixtures is suggested. Moreover, many fishnets and fishing lines are entangled in the hull.

L'immersione sul "KT"è bellissima, ma assai profonda e praticabile solo da subacquei molto esperti: spesso viene consigliato l'uso di miscele di Elio. In più, molte reti e lenze sono impigliate sullo scafo.
