    The Bolzaneto cargo off Bonassola 1943

The Bolzaneto was a bulk carrier built in 1918. During the II WW, she was damaged by airplane bombs when she was in Genova harbour, on October 12, 1942. One year later, when she was carrying a cargo of cast iron in ingots, she was attacked by an Allied submarine off the coast of Bonassola: two torpedoes hit the Bolzaneto, that rapidly sank. Just nine men of the crew survived.

Il Bolzaneto era un a nave per carichi sfusi, costruita nel 1918.
Durante la II Guerra Mondiale, e precisamente il 12 Ottobre 1942, fu colpita da bombe d'aereo nel porto di Genova, ma sopravvisse. Un anno dopo, mentre trasportava un carico di lingotti di ferro, fu attaccata da un sottomarino Alleato al largo della costa di Bonassola: due siluri colpirono il Bolzaneto, che affondò rapidamente. Solo nove uomini dell'equipaggio poterono essere salvati.

The wreck lies on a sandy bottom, at a depth of -54m, the upper part of the structure at -45m. The bow was destroyed by the explosions, and the stern emerges from the sand, exposing the propellers and the rudder: the 105mm stern gun is still in position. Unfortunately, a very large trawler fishnet was entangled on the Bolzaneto during 1995, partially covering the stern and the gun. 

Il relitto giace su un fondo sabbioso, ad una profondità di -54m, e le sovrastrutture raggiungono i -45m. La prua fu distrutta dalle esplosioni, e la poppa emerge dalla sabbia, mostrando le eliche ed il timone: il cannone poppiero da 105mm è ancora in posizione. Sfortunatamente, un'enorme rete a stascico si è impigliata sullo scafo nel 1995, coprendo parzialmente la poppa ed il cannone.
