. L'Umberto
I era un transatlantico di lusso, varato in Scozia nel 1878, che
navigava sulla rotta tra Genova e il Sud America. Alla fine del Secolo fu
trasformato in Nave Ospedale, e durante la I Guerra Mondiale operò anche
come incrociatore ausiliario: l'Umbero I affondò in seguito a
siluramento mentra scortava un convoglio al largo dell'Isola Gallinara,
nel corso dell'Agosto 1917. . . The hull lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of -48m, and is still in fine conditions, but many fishing nets are entangled on the wreck. A very careful diver can enjoy the visit to the steam boilers in the engine room. . Lo scafo giace su un fondo sabbioso ad una profondità di -48m, ed è ancora in buone condizioni, ma molte reti da pesca vi si sono impigliate nel corso del tempo. The Umberto
I was a luxury liner, launched in Scotland during 1878, and operating on
the route between Genova
and
Southern America. At
the end of the Century she was transformed in a Hospital ship, and during
the First World War she operated as auxiliary cruiser: the Umberto I
sank after a torpedo attack when she was esconting a convoy off Gallinara
Island, during August 1917.
