    The Souffleur French submarine
    near Khalde 1941

During the II WW, in the campaign brought on by Great Britain to occupy Lebanon and Syria, the German forces were supported by the Republic of Vichy.

The Souffleur  was a French submarine of the Requin class, serving in the Navy of the Republic of Vichy.

Il Souffleur era un sottomarino Francese della Classe Requin, che serviva nella Marina della Repubblica di Vichy.

The submarines of the Requin class were 78m long displacement 974 tons (surfaced) 1441 tons (submerged); max speed 15kn (surfaced) 9kn (submerged); ten 533mm torpedo launchers, one 100mm gun and a 13mm machine gun. Crew: 54

I sommergibili della Classe Requin erano lunghi 78m; dislocamento 974 tonnellate (in emersione) e 1441 tonnellate (in immersione); velocità massima 15 nodi (in emersione) e 9 nodi (in immersione); erano armati con dieci tubi lanciasiluri da 533mm, un cannone da 100mm e una mitragliera da 13mm; equipaggio 54.

The Souffleur was attacked and sunk by torpedoes from the British submarine HMS Parthian near Khalde (South of Beirouth) on June 25, 1941. 

Il Souffleur fu silurato e affondato dal sommergibile Britannico HMS Parthian al largo di Khalde (a Sud di Beirut) il 25 Giugno 1941.

The hull, still in good conditions (left, the conning tower) shows the dramatic effects of the explosion. 
The Souffleur lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of -36m, heeled to port.

Lo scafo è ancora in buone condizioni (a sinistra, la torretta) mostra i drammatici effetti dell'esplosione.
