    The HMS Cachalot  Porpoise-class British submarine
    North-West of Benghazi 1941

The HMS Cachalot was a Porpoise-class British submarine, built in Greenock by Scotts Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. during 1936 and launched during 1937.

L' HMS Cachalot era un sommergibile Britannico della Classe Porpoise, costruito a Greenock nei cantieri Scotts Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. nel corso del 1936, e varto nel 1937.

On August 20, 1940 the HMS Cachalot torpedoed and sank the German submarine U-51 in the Bay of Biscay.
During July 1941 she carried a cargo of supplies, ammonitions and mechanical spare parts from Alexandia (Egypt) to Malta.

Il 20 Agosto 1940, l' HMS Cachalot silurò e affondò il sommergibile Tedesco U-51 nel Golfo di Biscaglia.
Nel Luglio 1041 trasportò un carico di approvvigionamenti, munizioni e ricambi mecanici da Alessandria d'Egitto a Malta.

A few days later, on July 26, the HMS Cachalot left La Valletta heading to Alexandria, but on July 30, she was intercepted by the Italian torpedo boat Generale Achille Papa. 
The Italian torpedo boat attacked and damaged the submarine by gunfire, then headed to the HMS Cachalot to ram her: but the Italian Commander realized that the British crew was abandoning the submarine.
The HMS Cachalot was scuttled in deep waters when the crew was rescued by the Achille Papa. 

Alcuni giorni dopo, il 26 Luglio, l' HMS Cachalot salpò da La Valletta diretto ad Alessandria, ma il 30 Luglio fu intercettato dalla torpediniera Italiana Generale Achille Papa.
La torpediniera Italiana attaccò e danneggiò il sommergibile con fuoco d'artiglieria, e quindisi diresse contro l' HMS Cachalot per speronarlo: ma il Comandante Italiano si accorse che l'equipaggio Britannico stava abbandonando il sommergibile, e desistette dall'attacco.
L' HMS Cachalot fu affondato dall'equipaggio in acque profonde, e isuoi uonini furono raccolti dall'Achille Papa.

Just one man of the British submarine died: the crew of the HMS Cachalot was carried to Benghazi by the Italian torpedo-boat.

Un solo uomo del sommergibile Britannico morì: l'equipaggio dell' HMS Cachalot fu trasportato a Bengasi dalla torpediniera Italiana.
