    The HMS Gloucester Southampton-class
    British light cruiser
    in the Channel of Antikythera 1941

The HMS Gloucester  was a British light cruiser of the class Southampton, built in Plymouth by Devonport Dockyard during 1936, launched during 1937 and completed  by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. at Greenock.

L' HMS Gloucester era un incrociatore leggero Britannico della Classe Southampton, costruito a Plymouth nei cantieri Dovenport Dockyard nel corso del 1936, varato nel 1937 e complatato a Greenock nei cantieri Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Co.

At the beginning of the II World War, the HMS Gloucester moved in Mediterranean, where she took part in the Battle of Crete.
On May 22, 1941, she was spotted and attacked by a few German Junkers Ju.88 bombers, supported by some Junkers Ju. 87 Stuka dive bombers. 

All'inizio della II Guerra Mondiale, l' HMS Gloucester fu destinato in Mediterraneo, dove prese parte alla Battaglia di Creta.
Il 22 Maggio 1941, fu avvistato ed attaccato da alcuni bombardieri Tedeschi Junkers Ju 88, che furono appoggiati da un gruppo di bombardieri in picchiata Junkers Ju 87 Stuka.

The British cruiser was devastated by the deadly precise bombing, and rapidly sank in the channel of Antikythera, North-West of Crete. 
694 men of the crew, including the Commander and 45 officers, sank with the HMS Gloucester.

L'incrociatore Britannico fu devastato da un bombardamento mortalmente preciso, e affondò rapidamente nel canale di Antikythera, a Nord-Ovest di Creta.
