    The U-565 German VII-C class submarine 
    at Salamis 1944

The U-565 was one of the successiful VII-C class German submarine, she was built in Hamburg by Blohm und Voss during 1940, and launched during 1941.

The submarines of the VII-C class were 67.10m long; displacement 769 tons (surfaced) 871 tons (submerged); max speed 17.7kn (surfaced) 7.5kn (submerged); five 533mm torpedo launchers; one 88mm gun, plus one or two 20mm or one 37mm machine gun. They were designed to dive down to -220m.

I sommergibili della Classe VII-C erano lunghi 67.10m; dislocamento 769 tonnellate (in emersione) e 871 tonnellate (in immersione); velocità massima 17.7 nodi (in emersione) e 7.5 nodi (in immersione); erano armati con cinque tubi lanciasiluri da 533mm e di un cannone da 88mm, più una o due mitragliere da 12.7mm o un cannone da 37mm; erano progettati per potersi immergere fino a -220m

The U-565 sank 6 enemy ships in 21 missions, totalling 19000 tons.
On March 11, 1942, she torpedoed and sank the British cruiser HMS Naiad North of Sidi Barrani (Egypt).
On November 10, 1944, she escaped from a heavy deep charge bombing in Mediterranean, but her periscope was so damaged that the U-565 was forced to return to the base.

L' U-565 affondò 6 navi nemiche in 21 missioni, per un totale di 19000 tonnellate.
L' 11 Marzo 1942, silurò ed affondò l'incrociatore Britannico HMS Naiad, a Nord di Sidi Barrani (Egitto).
Il 10 Novembre 1944 scampò ad un pesante attacco con bombe di profondità in Mediterraneo, ma il suo periscopio ne fu talmente danneggiato che l' U-565 dovette far ritorno alla base.

On September 19, 1944, the U-565 was severely damaged by aircraft bombs when she was near Skaramanga Bay (Salamis), at 37°57'N, 23°40'E.
Five men of the crew died.
The U-565 couldn't be repaired: on September 24, she was scuttled by depth charges off Salamis.

Il 19 Settembre 1944, l' U-565 fu gravemente danneggiato da bombe d'aereo nelle vicinanze della Baia di Skaramanga, presso Salamina, a 37°57'N, 23°40'E.
Cinque membri dell'equipaggio morirono nell'attacco.
L' U-565 non potè essere riparato: il 24 Settembre fu affondato dagli stessi Tedeschi con cariche di profondità al largo di Salamina.
