    The HMS Thorn T-class British submarine
    off Gavdos Islet (South of Crete) 1942 

The HMS Thorn was a T-class British submarine, built in Birkenhead by Cammell Laird Shipyard during 1940, and launched during 1941.

The HMS Thorn operated in Mediterranean.
On January 30, 1942, when she was patrolling the Northern Adriatic, the HMS Thorn intercepted the Italian submarine Medusa, just coming out of the base of Pula for an instruction cruise. 
The British submarine torpedoed the Medusa, that rapidly sank.

Il 30 Gennaio 1942, mentre stava pattugliando l'Adriatico settentrionale, l' HMS Thorn intercettò il sommergibile Italiano Medusa, appena uscito dalla base di Pola per una crociera di addestramento. Il sommergibile Britannico silurò il Medusa, che affondò rapidamente.

On August 6, 1942, the HMS Thorn attacked the Italian tanker Istria that was in a convoy about 30 miles South of Gavdos Island (South of Crete). 
Just after noon, an escorting aircraft spotted the submarine, and attacked by machine guns. After a few minutes, the Italian torpedo-boat Pegaso got a contact and attacked by depth charges. After the seventh bombing, the contact was lost: the HMS Thorn couldn't even surface, and sank with all hands at 34°25'N, 22°36'E.

Dopo il settimo passaggio, il contatto fu perso: l' HMS Thorn non potè nemmeno riemergere, ed affondò con tutto l'equipaggio a 34°25'N, 22°36'E.
