   The Janthina Italian submarine 
   off Mykonos Island 1941

The Janthina was an Italian submarine that was based in Leros Island (Dodecanese) during the II WW.

Lo Janthina era un sommergibile Italiano che, durante la II Guerra Mondiale, era stato destinato alla base dell'Isola di Lero (Dodecanneso).

On July 5, 1941, when she was partrolling the Southern Aegean Sea, it was spotted and attacked by the British submarine HMS Torbay off Mykonos Island (Cyclades).
Two torpedoes hit the Janthina, that sank immediately: just six men of the crew could be rescued.

Il 5 Luglio 1941, mentre stava pattugliando l' Egeo Meridionale, fu localizzato e attaccato dal sommergibile Britannico HMS Torbay al largo dell'Isola di Mykonos (Cicladi).
Due siluri colpirono lo Janthina, che affondō immediatamente: solo sei uomini dell'equipaggio poterono essere salvati.
