    The Chauen cargo
    near Le Planier Island (Marseille) 1970

The Chauen was a Moroccan cargo that sunk at the very end of a voyage from Casablanca to Marseille: the adverse weather conditions caused the grounding of the cargo on the cliffs of Le Planier Island on February 21, 1970. 
A French tug operated a disperate attempt to rescue the unlucky Chauen, but the violence of the waves sank the cargo during the night after the collision.

Lo Chauen era una nave da carico di nazionalità Marocchina, affondato proprio alla fine di un viaggio tra Casablanca e Marsiglia: le avverse condizioni meteorologiche portarono la nave a cozzare contro le scogliere dell' Isola di Le Planier il 21 Febbraio 1970.
Un rimorchiatore Francese tentò un disperato recupero dello sfortunato Chauen, ma la violenza delle onde affondarono la nave da carico la notte seguente la collisione. 

The bow of the Chauen emerged from the sea surface for at least fifteen years, then slowly the hull slipped down: now the bow is at a depth of -2m. The 85m long hull lies on a slope, and the stern is at -24m. 
The wreck is still too recent to be really colonized by marine creatures: anyway, the shaded parts of the hull begin to host the first Gorgonias, together with dense schools of small fishes. 
The water at Le Planier Island is often very clear, and the dive on the Chauen is easy and interesting, suitable also for beginners. 

La prua del Chauen rimase visibile fuori dall'acqua per almeno quindici anni, poi lo scafo scivolò giù lentamente: ora la prua è ad una profondità di -2m. Lo scafo, lungo 85m, giace su una scogliera inclinata, e la poppa si trova ad una profondità di -24m.
Il relitto è ancora troppo recente per essere complatamente colonizzato dalle creature marine, ma le parti ombreggiate dello scafo ospitano già le prime Gorgonie e densi branchi di pesci.
L' acqua è sempre molto limpida a Le Planier, e l'immersione sul Chauen è facile ed interessante, adatta anche ai principianti.
