The Rubis was a French mine-laying submarine of the Saphir class, bulit in the Arsenal de Toulon during 1930 and launched during 1931.

Il Rubis era un sommergibile posamine Francese della Classe Saphir, costruito nell' Arsenal de Toulon nel 1930 e varato nel 1931.

The submarines of the Saphir class were about 66m-long; displacement 670 tons (surfaced) 925 tons (submaeged); max speed 12kn (surfaced) 9kn (submaeged); two 533mm plus two 395mm torpedo tubes; 32 mines; one  75mm gun and two 13mm machine guns.

I sommergibili della Classe Saphir erano lunghi circa 66m; dislocamento 670 tonnellate (in emersione) 925 tonnellete (in emersione); velocità massima 12 nodi (in emersione) 9 nodi (in emersione); due tubi lanciasiluri da 533mm più due da 395mm; 32 mine; un cannone da 75mm e due mitragliere da 13mm.

On July 3, 1940, the Rubis moved to the base of Dundee, Scotland: during the II World War she operated in the North Sea laying nearly 700 mines, that sank or damaged at least 25 ships. 
She was later transferred to the Free French Navy.

Il 3 Luglio 1940 il Rubis si trasferì nella base di Dundee (Scozia): nel corso della II Guerra Mondiale operò nel Mare del Nord posando circa 700 mine, che affondarono o danneggiarono almeno 25 navi.
In seguito fu trasferito alla Marine della Francia Libera.

The Rubis survived to the war, was stricked during 1949 and scuttled in January 1958 off Cap Camarat, between Cavalaire and Saint-Tropez. 
The wreck is very popular among French and Italian scuba divers: the hull is in very good conditions, and lies in navigation trim on a sandy bottom at a depth of -40m; the water is always very clear.

Il Rubis sopravvisse alla guerra, fu radiato dai ruoli operativi nel 1949 ed affondato a cannonate nel Gennaio 1958 al largo di Cap Camarat, tra Cavalaire and Saint-Tropez.
Il relitto è molto famoso tra i subacquei Francesi ed Italiani: lo scafo è in ottime condizioni, e giace in assetto di navigazione su un fondala sabbioso ad una profondità di -40m; l' acqua è sempre molto limpida.
