    The Junkers Ju. 88 German bomber 
    near Le Frioul Island (Marseille) 1944

The Junkers Ju 88 was one of the most successiful German medium bombers, the true backbone of the Luftwaffe during the II Word War. 
It was powered by two Junkers Jumo engines (1410hp); max speed 450km/h; range 2480km; one 20mm and seven 7.7mm machine guns; max bomb load 2000kg.

Il Junkers Ju 88 era uno dei più diffusi ed efficienti bombardieri Tedeschi, nerbo della Luftwaffe durante la II Guerra Mondiale.
Era propulso da due motori Junkers Jumo da 1410hp, che  gli consentivano una velocità massima di 450km/h; autonomia 2480km; Una mitragliatrice da 12.7mm e sette da 7.7mm; massimo carico offensivo 2000kg.

We have no informations about the episode that led to the crash of  this particular Ju 88, but probably the bomber fell after a severe engine failure during 1944. At least one member of the crew died.

Non abbiamo notizie sull' episodio che portò alla caduta di questo particolare Ju 88, ma probabilmente il bombardiere precipitò per un grave guasto ai motori nel corso del 1944. Almano un membro dell'equipaggio morì.

The wreck lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of -56m. Just the rear part of the fuselage (right) was damaged in the crash, dramatically twisted on its right side, and the propellers have been broken. 
The front part of the cockpit (above) is also deformed, but the structure of the airplane is mostly intact. A large trawler fishnet is entangled in the left wing.

Il relitto giace su un fondale sabbioso ad una profondità di -56m. Solo la parte posteriore (a destra) fu danneggiata nell'impatto con l' acqua, ed è rimasta drammaticamente piegata a destra, e le eliche si sono spezzate. 
La parte anteriore dell' abitacolo (sopra) risulta deformata, ma la struttura dell'aereoplano è per lo più intatta. Una grande rete da pesca si è impigliata sull' ala sinistra.

The dive to the Ju 88 of Le Frioul is impressive, but not easy, because of the depth and the poor transparency of the water.

L' immersione sul relitto del Ju 88 di Le Frioul è spettacolare ma non facile, sia per la profondità che per l'acqua raramente limpida.
