The tragedy of the
French liner Liban caused the death of more than 200
passengers, on June 7, 1903: during a voyage to Corsica, the Liban
collided with the French cargo Insulaire in poor visibility
conditions. The Captain tried to ground the liner, but the bow began to
sink, lifting the stern and the propeller out of the water. Suddenly, a
boiler exploded, braking the hull in two parts that rapidly sank.
