    The Roman vessel of Arles
    I Century A.D.

.
The ancient Ship of Arles was a Roman trade vessel, about 30m long, possibly coming from Betica (Southern Spain) or Balearic Islands.

.

She was carrying a cargo of olive oil and wine in Dressel 20 (left) and Greek-Italic amphorae (below), and sank off the coast of the Gulf of Lion at the beginning of the first Century A.D.

.

The hull lies at very high depth, and was discovered and explored by means of a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle), an unmanned submarine.
The findings include an iron anchor, a lead anchor stock, copper ingots and pottery.

.
