    The HMS Gurkha British L-class destroyer
    off Sidi Barrani 1942

The HMS Larne was an L-class British destroyer, built in Birkenhead by Cammell Laird Shipyard during 1938, and launched during 1940. 
During April 1940, after the loss of the Tribal-class HMS Gurkha (F 20), the HMS Larne was renamed HMS Gurkha (F 63).

L' HMS Larne era un cacciatorpediniere Britannico della Classe L, costruito a Birkenhead nei cantieri Cammell Laird Shipyerd nel corso del 1938, e varato nel 1940.
Nell'Aprile 1940, dopo la perdita del cacciatorpediniere della Classe Tribal HMS Gurkha (F 20), l' HMS Larne fu ribattezzato HMS Gurkha (F 63).

On September 29, 1941 the HMS Gurkha intercepted and attacked the Italian submarine Diaspro off Algerine coasts at 37°32'N, 6°45'E. The submarine reacted launching a pattern of torpedoes. The British destroyer wasn't hit by the torpedoes, and engaged the Diaspro together with the Dutch destroyer HNMS Isaac Sweers, but the submarine escaped. 

Il 29 Settembre 1941, l' HMS Gurkha intercettò ed attaccò il sommergibile Italiano Diaspro al largo delle coste Algerine, a 37°32'N, 6°45'E. Il sommergibile reagì lanciando un ventaglio di siluri. Il cacciatorpediniere Britannico non fu colpito, ma ingaggiò il Diaspro con la collaborazione del cacciatorpediniere Olandese HNMS Isaac Sweers, ma il sommergibile riuscì a sfuggire.

The day after, September 30, the HMS Gurkha and her sistership HMS Legion depth charged and sank the Italian submarine Adua North of Cartagena.

Il giorno dopo, 30 Settembre, l' HMS Gurkha ed il suo gemello HMS Legion attaccarono ed affondarono con bombe di profondità il sommergibile Italiano Adua a Nord di Cartagena.

On January 17, 1942,  the HMS Gurkha was intercepted off Sidi Barrani by the German submarine U-133: the submarine torpedoed the British destroyer, and hit her in the fuel tanks.
A dramatic fire burned the British destroyer from bow to stern.

Il 17 Gennaio 1942, l' HMS Gurkha fu intercettato al largo di Sidi Barrani dal sommergibile Tedesco U-133: il sommergibile silurò il cacciatorpediniere Britannico, e lo colpì ai serbatio del carburante.
Un drammatico incendio avvolse il cacciatorpediniere da prua a poppa.

The HNMS Isaac Sweers towed the unlucky HMS Gurkha out of her own burning oil, and rescued the most part of the British crew.
The HMS Gurkha, anyway, was so damaged that had to be scuttled: she sank North of Sidi Barrani.

L' HNMS Isaac Sweers trainò lo sfortunato HMS Gurkha fuori dal suo stesso carburante incendiato, e prese a bordo la maggior parte dell'equipaggio Britannico.
L' HMS Gurkha, tuttavia, aveva subito tali danni che dovette essere affondato a Nord di Sidi Barrani.
