The HMS Defender was a D-class British destroyer, built in Barrow-in-Furness by Vickers Armstrong during 1931, and launched during 1932.

L' HMS Defender era un cacciatorpediniere Britannico della Classe D, costruito a Barrow-in-Furness nei cantieri Vickers Armstrong nel corso del 1931, e varato nel 1932.

During June 1940, the British destroyers HMS Dainty, HMS Defender and HMS Ilex  were escorting a huge squadron of British warships, including two battleships and an aircraft carrier, in Central Mediterranean.

Il 27 Giugno 1940, i cacciatorpediniere Britannici HMS Dainty, HMS Defender and HMS Ilex stavano scortando una grande squadra di navi da guerra Britanniche, tra cui due corazzate ed una portaerei, nel Mediterraneo centrale.

Between June 27 and June 29, they spotted and attacked four Italian submarines patrolling the coasts of Libya: the Liuzzi and the Uebi Scebeli were sank by depth charges off Derna (Eastern Libya). 
In the same days, they attacked and probably sank the Argonauta, and the Salpa suffered severe damages by the British depth charges, but escaped.

Tra il 27 ed il 29 Giugno, i cacciatorpediniere localizzarono ed attaccarono almeno quattro sommergibili Italiani che pattugliavano le acque della Libia: il Liuzzi e lo Uebi Scebeli furono affondati con bombe di profondità al largo di Derna (Libia orientale).
Negli stessi giorni, attaccarono e affondarono l' Argonauta, ed il Salpa fu gravemente danneggiato dalle bombe di profondità Britanniche, ma riuscì a sfuggire alla caccia.

On July 11, 1941, the HMS Defender was spotted and attacked off the coasts of Egypt by a German Junkers Ju 88 bomber.
The British destroyer was severely damaged, and sank off Sidi Barrani. 
The crew had the time to abandon the ship. No man was lost.

L' 11 Luglio 1941, l' HMS Defender fu avvistato ed attaccato al largo delle coste Egiziane da un bombardiere Tedesco Junkers Ju 88.
Il cacciatorpediniere Britannico fu gravemente danneggiato, ed affondò al largo di Sidi Barani.
L'equipaggio ebbe il tempo di abbandonare la nave. Non ci furono perdite.
