                The ancient harbour of Alexandria

During the last two Millennia, part of the ancient town of Alexandria has been slowly submerged by the Mediterranean, and an extraordinary amount of monuments now lie on the seabottom at a depth of 6-8m.

Most of the manufactured works belong to the Alexandrine Age, ranging from the V Century B.C. to the VII Century A.D., including capitals and bases of columns, Sphinxes, obelisks, huge statues, a mixture of Ancient Greek and Pharaonic styles.

La maggior parte dei manufatti appartiene all'età Alessandrina (tra il V Sec olo A.C. ed il VII Secolo D.C.), e comprende capitelli e basamenti di colonne, Sfingi, obelischi, enormi statue, in uno stile che mescola elementi dell'Egitto dei Faraoni e dell'Antica Grecia.

A number of pieces, anyway, can be attributed to the period ranging from the XIX to the VI Century B.C.
