    The U-47 U-43-class German submarine at Pula 1918

The U-47 was a German submarine of the U 43 class: she was built in Danzig by Kaiserliche Werft during 1914 and launched during 1915.

The submarines of the U 43 class were 65m long; displacement 725 tons (surfaced) 940 tons (submerged); max speed 17.1kn (surfaced) 9.1kn (submerged); four 533mm torpedo launchers, one 88mm gun. They were designed to dive down to -50m.

The U-47 was based in Pula since February 1916, sinking 14 enemy ships in two patrols. After June 1917 she couldn't operate any other patrol owing to severe engine problems, that could no longer be solved.
