The UB-48 was a German submarine of the UB III class: she was built in Hamburg by Blohm und Voss during 1916 and launched during 1917.
The UB-48 served as the Austro-Hungarian U-55 until the end of the war.

L' UB-48 era un sommergibile Tedesco della Classe UB III: fu costruito ad Amburgo nei cantieri Blohm und Voss nel corso del 1916, e varato nel 1917.
L' UB-48 servì nella Marina Austro-Ungarica come U-55 fino alla fine della I Guerra Mondiale.

The submarines of the UB III class were 55.30m long; displacement 516 tons (surfaced) 651 tons (submerged); max speed 13.6kn (surfaced) 8kn (submerged); five 533mm torpedo launchers, one 88mm gun. They were designed to dive down to -50m.

The UB-48 was based in Pula since September, 1917, and operated nine patrols sinking 36 enemy ship.

At the end of the I WW, on October 28, 1918, she was scuttled at Pula during the evacuation.
