    The HMS Saracen S-class British submarine
    off Bastia 1943

The HMS Saracen was a British S-class submarine, built by Cammell Laird Shipyard in Birkenhead during 1940-41, and launched during June 27, 1942.

Her pennant number was originally P 63. Then she was renumbered P 213. The "13" seemed to be unlucky: the number was again changed in P 247.

The HMS Saracen firstly operated in Nortehrn Sea, where she sank the German submarine U-335. Then she moved in Mediterranean, where she sank the Italian submarine Granito North-West of Marsala (Sicily).

On August 7, 1943, when she was off Bastia (North-East of Corsica, Tyrrhenian Sea) the HMS Saracen was attacked by the Italian corvettes Minerva and Euterpe: the depth charges severely damaged the resistance hull, and the submarine was abandoned by the crew, and scuttled.

Il 7 Agosto 1943, mentre era al largo di Bastia (a Nord-Est della Corsica, Mar Tirreno), l' HMS Saracen fu attaccato dalle corvette Italiane Minerva ed Euterpe: le bombe di profondità danneggiarono gravemente lo scafo di resistenza dell' HMS Saracen, e l'equipaggio fu costretto ad abbandonare il sottomarino e ad affondarlo.
