    The U-602 German VII-C class submarine
    North of Oran 1943

The U-602 was one of the successiful VII-C class German submarines: she was built and launched in Hamburg by Blohm und Voss during 1941.

The submarines of the VII-C class were 67.10m long; displacement 769 tons (surfaced) 871 tons (submerged); max speed 17.7kn (surfaced) 7.5kn (submerged); five 533mm torpedo launchers; one 88mm gun, plus one or two 20mm or one 37mm machine gun. They were designed to dive down to -220m.

The U-602 sank one enemy ship in four missions.

During April, 1943, the U-602 left her base in Toulon (France).
On April 19, when she was cruising North of Algiers, the German submarine was attacked by a British Lockheed A 28 Hanson anti-submarine bomber.
The U-602 was hit by depth charges, and sank with all hands at 36°50'N, 0°'02'W.

On April 23, an other Hanson depth charged a German submarine, reporting to have sunk the U-602. 
But, in fact, the submarine was the U-453, that escaped without suffering any damage.

Il 23 Aprile, un altro Hanson attacco con bombe di profondità un sommergibile Tedesco, e comunicò di avere affondato l' U-602.
