    The CB 17 Italian midget submarine

The CB was a model of Italian midget submarine, particularly designed for coastal and assault operations.
The CB were based in Pola (Istra) during the II World War, but operated also in Finland and in Black Sea.

Il CB era un modello di sommergibile tascabile Italiano, progettato per operazioni costiere o d' assalto.
I sommergibili CB operarono dalla base di Pola durante a II Guerra Mondiale, ma furono presenti anche in Finlandia ed in Mar Nero.

The submarines of the CB series, 15m long, were powered with a 90hp diesel engine (max speed 7.5kn, range 1400 miles) and a 100hp electric engine (max speed 7kn, range 50 miles); max depth 55m; crew: 4; two torpedoes.

I sommergibili della serie CB,l unghi 15m, erano propulsi da un motore diesel da 90hp (velocità massima 7.5 nodi, autonomia 1400 miglia) e da un motore elettrico da 100hp (velocità massima 7 nodi, autonomia 50 miglia; equipaggio: 4; due siluri.

Some 25 CB have been built since 1941. 
An Italian oceanic submarine, the Leonardo da Vinci, was modified to carry a CB across the Atlantic ocean to attack the harbour of New York, bur she was lost before the action.

Circa 25 CB furono costruiti a partire dal 1941.
Un sommergibile oceanico Italiano, il Leonardo da Vinci, fu modificato per trasportare attraverso l' Atlantico un CB, per attaccare il porto di New York; ma andò perrduto prima dell' operazione.

The CB 17 was sunk by Allied airplanes during a secret operation off Seigallia, on April 2, 1945. Three men of the crew, and two agents, have been rescued.
The wreck lies on a sandy bottom, at a depth of -36m.

Il CB 17 fu affondato da aereoplani Alleati nel corso di una operazione segreta al largo di Senigallia il 2 Aprile 1945. I tre uomini dell' equipaggio e due agenti riuscirono a salvarsi.
Il relitto giace su un fondo sabbioso, ad una profondità di -36m.

Another CB midget submarine, the CB 26, was scuttled at the and of the war. She is now exposed in Trieste in the Museo Henriquez. 

Un altro sommergibile tascabile, il CB 26, fu sabotato dall'equipaggio alla fine della guerra. Oggi è esposto a Trieste al Museo Enriquez.
