    The Molch German midget submarine
    off Sistiana 1945

The Molch was a model of German midget submarine, about 10m long. The shape resembled that of a large torpedo.
These 11 ton one-man submarines were powered by an electric engine, with a range of 40 miles; max speed 5kn; two torpedoes.

Il Molch era un modello di sommergibile tascabile Tedesco, lungo circa 10m. La forma richiamave quella di un grande siluro.
Questi sommergibili monoposto stazzavano 11 tonnellate, ed erano propulsi da un motore elettrico che conferiva loro una velocità di 5 nodi e un' autonomia di 40 miglia; erano armati con due siluri.

More than 200 Molch were built during 1944 and 1945: at least 70 of them sank in action. A few Molch were based in Trieste during the II World War, but we have no notices about their activities. 
At the end of the war they were scuttled by the crews: the Molch that sank near Sistiana lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of -10m: the hull was severely damaged by the explosion, and is in poor conditions.

Più di 200 Molch furono costruiti tra il 1944 ed il 1945: almeno 70 di essi furono affondati in azione. Alcuni Molch furono distaccati a Trieste  nrel corso della II Guerra Mondiale, ma non abbiamo notizie sul loro impiego.
Alla fine delle ostilità, furono affondati o sabotati dagli equipaggi: il Molch che affondò presso Sistiana giace su un fondale sabbioso, ad una profondità di -10m: lo scafo fu gravemente danneggiato dall'esplosione delle cariche di affondamento, ed è in cattive condizioni.

Another midget submarine Molch, the cockpit damaged by the explosion of the demolition charge, is now exposed in Trieste in the Henriquez Museum. 

Un altrosommergibile tascabile Molch, con l'abitacolo danneggiato dalla carica di demolizione, è oggi esposto a Trieste nel Museo Henriquez.
