The Consolidated B 24 Liberator was one of the most successiful strategic bomber of the US Air Force during the II WW, but it served also as a long-range reconnaissance aircraft and freighter.

A B 24 Liberator was shooted down by the anti aircraft fire during a bombing attack on Northern Italy, in 1944. 
The pilot tried an emergency landing, but the bomber sank rapidly on a sandy bottom, at a depth of -15m off Lignano Sabbiadoro.
