    The Roman vessel of Grado

The famous ancient Ship of Grado was a Roman trade vessel, carrying a cargo of wine in Noth-African and Aegean amphorae, and sunk off the coast of Grado during the third Century B.C.

La famosa antica Nave di Grado era una nave commerciale da carico Romana, che trasportava un carico di vino in anfore Nord Africane e Greche, affondato al largo della Costa di Grado nel corso del Terzo Secolo A.C.

The hull has been found intact, and a great number of findings have been recovered. Among them, a number of small wine amphorae, probably containing high-quality wine, a beutiful bronze statuette representing Neptune brandishing the trident, and an extraordinary container, a cask filled with glass fragments: the town of Aquileia, not far from Grado, was famous for glass industry, and could have been the destination of a cargo of glass ready for melting. 

Lo scafo è stato ritrovato intatto, e sono stati recuperati moltissimi di reperti. Tra essi, un gran numero di piccole anfore vinarie, che probabilmente contenevano un vino di elevata qualità, una splendida statuetta in bronzo raffigurante Nettuno che brandisce un tridente, ed uno straordinario contenitore, un barile pieno di frammenti di vetro: la cità di Aquileia, non lontana da Grado, era famosa in quel periodo per le sue vetrerie, e potrebbe essere stata la destinazione di un carico di frammenti di vetro pronti per la fusione.

The hull is 18m long, and lies on a sandy bottom at a depth of -15m, six miles off the coast: presently it is covered by a metallic net to protect it from thieves.

Lo scafo è lungo 18m, e giace su un fondale sabbioso ad una profondità di -15m, a sei miglia dalla costa: è stata ricoperta da una rete metallica per proteggerla dai ladri.
