The
Mediterranean is a very original Sea! It resembles the people that live on
its coasts: it is the result of a long eventful history, of infinite
influences, of mixed particularities. Il Mediterraneo è un mare davvero originale! The wrecks that crowd the Mediterranean coasts tell us about the trades, the habits, the wars, the relations between peoples, generations, cultures: Greek wine in Roman amphorae, Spanish lead ingots on Punic ships, African marble on Italian coasts... I relitti che affollano le coste del Mediterraneo ci parlano dei commerci, delle abitudini, dei conflitti, delle relazioni tra popoli, generazioni, culture: vino Greco in anfore Romane, lingotti di piombo Spagnolo su navi Puniche, marmo Africano sulle coste Italiane... A wreck is a time-machine: it brings the
visitor back to the moment of sinking. It is not like a visit to a grave,
or to a museum. It is something like entering into a time-bubble: the
amphorae are still stacked where a sailor put them twenty centuries ago,
an old pot seems to be ready for cooking, shining coins are engraved with
the head of the Emperor... Un relitto è una macchina del tempo: riporta il visitatore indietro fino al momento del naufragio. Non è come una visita a una tomba, o ad un museo. E' qualcosa come entrare in una bolla temporale: le anfore sono ancora impilate come le aveva messe un marinaio venti secoli fa, una vecchia pentola sembra ancora pronta per cucinare, monete scintillanti portano ancora l'effigie dell'Imperatore... I think that a wreck is not just the occasion for a good dive: every wreck tells a story, if you want to listen.This is the reason because I included in these pages some sites where diving is forbidden, ships embedded in reclaimed territories, lost sculptures, recovered and dismantled ships, and monuments intentionally built under the waves: it's because I love old stories.
