Cavoliniidae

     
Cavolinia inflexa (Lesueur)

The Family Cavoliniidae has holoplanctonic habits.
The shell has a ventral bulge, and is perfectly transparent, sometimes with pink, or brown spots.
The animal shows two wide, wing-like parapods, used for swimming.
The Cavoliniidae live in large schools in open waters; during winter, young specimens can be found near the surface and close to the coast.

La Famiglia Cavoliniidae ha abitudini oloplanctoniche.
La conchiglia presenta un rigonfiamento ventrale, ed è perfettamente trasparente, talvolta con macchie rosa o marroni.
L'animale ha due grandi parapodi a forme di ali, di cui si serve per nuotare.
Le Cavoliniidae vivono in grandi branchi in alto mare; durante l'inverno, i giovani si possono trovare in superficie e vicino alla costa
In Mediterraneo sono presenti 14 Specie.
